FIDE is pleased to announce a new online competition, aimed at the younger members of the chess community: the FIDE Online World Cadets & Youth Rapid Chess Championships.
This event will comprise five different age groups (U10, U12, U14, U16, and U18), competing in two sections: open and girls.
A selection stage will take place between November 27 and December 13, with the finals being played in December 19-23.
The International Chess Federation is pleased to announce the FIDE Online Olympiad for People with disabilities, to be held between November 20 and December 3, 2020.
This is a team competition, played on four boards, where at least one of the players has to be a woman.
The event will consist of two stages. The first one is a 7 round Swiss System, from which the best 4 teams will qualify to play a double-round semifinal (November 29-30). The two best teams will advance to the finals, while the two others will compete for third prize.
This was an inaugural tournament which had a lot of glitches but these were overcome and the tournament ended on the 18th of October as was planned. The future of Zimbabwean chess is in the youth and supporting these youths will produce players of repute who can stand tall against other nations as is evidenced by how Roy Mwadzura held the best player on board one IM Watu Kobese of South Africa as well as the exploits by the above mentioned best performing Zimbabweans. Over and above our chess will produce the best if we do have proper planning for events as well as the corporate world support is of paramount importance. Zimbabwe chess needs your support and for sure, Zimbabwe will have new International Masters with this type of exposure.
